Systematic review proves that online-learning rules!

Image courtesty of nswlearnscope

A study published by the U.S. Department of Education has shown that e-learning is more effective than face-to-face classroom learning. The systematic review of 99 quantitative studies comparing e-learning with face-to-face teaching found that e-learners averaged in the 59th percentile at the end of their course, compared to the 50th percentile for classroom learners. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant. Luddites repent, technophiles rejoice!

Why, how wonderful, we've got wi-fi!

Believe it or believe it not, but after at least 18 months of begging, pestering, cajoling and wheedling, the ScHARR Library has taken a step into the millennium and gotten itself all wi-fied up!
Students and staff alike can now use their very own laptops in the library while enjoying frighteningly fast internet access! Wa-hey!

Information is Beautiful

Posted by Andy

This has to be one of the most interesting sites I've come across in a long time. Not only does it take information from a collection of words and numbers and turns them into graphs, but it does it in a very attractive and cool way. With graphs showing you how to Reduce Your Chances of Dying in a Plane Crash to latest Swine Flu stats in a Google Doc to Mountains out of Molehills looking at moral panics
There is a a book to accompany the project. I won't say anymore as this post is about visualisation and not text - so with that in mind I will shut up.
